Roane’s Rigging & Transfer Co., Inc. is a family-owned, minority-operated business that has been a trusted name in the industry for nearly 50 years. The company’s roots trace back to the early 1960s when Doc Roane, having worked at Sparrows Point, set his sights on creating his own business. In 1967, driven by entrepreneurial ambition, Doc founded Roane’s Delivery with just one truck, initially focusing on delivering commercial restaurant equipment and ice cream freezers for clients like Ekloff and Hershey Ice Cream. This small but steady start laid the foundation for what would become a significant presence in Baltimore.
By 1972, with his wife Doris’ support and leadership, Doc expanded the business. He added more trucks, hired several employees, and positioned the company for growth. Roane’s quickly gained recognition for its reliability and customer service, making a name for itself in the Baltimore area.
The business evolved further in 1977, when Doc recognized an opportunity to diversify. He expanded Roane’s offerings to include rigging—the complex process of moving large, heavy machinery—and office relocation services. His ability to take on jobs that required a combination of physical strength and specialized rigging techniques quickly earned him a reputation for handling even the toughest assignments. In the same year, Doc secured Important contracts with local city agencies, as well as a National Defense Contractor, a relationship that endures to this day.
Upon Doc’s passing in 1988, his daughter Kimberlee took the helm as president. Determined to honor her father’s legacy, she guided the company through the next chapter of its evolution. While the company has expanded its services to include demolition and modular furniture, Kimberlee has ensured that the core values and principles Doc established continue to define the company’s approach to business: hard work, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. Today, Roane’s Rigging & Transfer remains a trusted and respected name, blending its rich history with a forward-thinking approach to meet the evolving needs of its clients.
